Yarada BeachAndhra Pradesh β€” Beach Guide 2026

Yarada Beach is Visakhapatnam's best-kept coastal secret β€” a pristine, secluded crescent of golden sand tucked between the steep green slopes of the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal. Unlike Vizag's more accessible beaches (Rushikonda, RK Beach), getting to Yarada requires navigating a steep winding road through the Dolphin Nose headland, which acts as a natural barrier against mass tourism. The reward is extraordinary: one of Andhra Pradesh's cleanest, most dramatic beaches, with a lighthouse perched on the hill above and virtually no commercial clutter on the shore.

Arjun Mehta visited Yarada Beach during a Visakhapatnam coastal road trip in January 2026 β€” the most rewarding detour on the entire AP coastline.

Why Yarada Beach Is Special

Yarada Beach sits at the southern tip of Visakhapatnam, enclosed on three sides by the Eastern Ghats' coastal spurs. The Dolphin Nose headland to the north and the steep forested hillside to the south create a naturally sheltered bay. This geography does two things: it protects the beach from strong waves for much of the year, and it ensures that only visitors willing to make a 9 km winding road journey actually arrive here.

The result is a beach that rarely feels crowded, even on weekends. The shoreline is long β€” nearly 2 km of continuous golden sand β€” with the blue-green Bay of Bengal stretching out to the horizon. The Lighthouse at Yarada Hill is another visual anchor; it's visible from multiple points on the beach and can be reached on foot for panoramic views of the coast.

The water at Yarada is cleaner than most AP beaches due to the absence of commercial activity directly on the shore. Swimming is safe from October to March. The beach also offers some of the best sunrises anywhere in Vizag β€” the sun emerges directly from the Bay of Bengal horizon, unobstructed.

πŸ’‘
Pro Tips
🌊Start early β€” the winding Dolphin Nose road can get congested with two-wheelers on weekend mornings. Aim to arrive before 8am for a peaceful sunrise experience.
🐚Carry sufficient water, food, and cash β€” there are minimal shops at Yarada. A few chai stalls near the parking area are the only food options.
πŸͺΈThe lighthouse area (Yarada Hill top) is restricted to general public but the view from the road below is spectacular during golden hour.

Things to Do at Yarada Beach

Swimming is the primary draw β€” the beach has gentle, clean waves from October to March. The deep blue of the Bay of Bengal here is noticeably different from Vizag's more commercial beaches. Bodyboarding is possible with basic equipment. Fishing from the shore is popular with locals, who can often be seen casting nets at dawn and dusk.

The Dolphin Nose viewpoint, 2 km before the beach on the winding road, gives a dramatic aerial view of Yarada Bay and the lighthouse. This is one of the most photographed viewpoints in all of Vizag. The coastal forest walk from Dolphin Nose down to the beach level (30–40 min on foot) passes through dense scrub with occasional sightings of peacocks and monitor lizards.

Sunrise photography at Yarada is exceptional. The earliest light catches the lighthouse, the hills, and the golden sand simultaneously β€” a rare composition in Indian coastal photography. Many travel photographers rate Yarada as the best sunrise location in the entire Andhra coast.

How to Reach Yarada Beach Vizag

Yarada Beach is 14 km south of Vizag city centre. The approach road is via the Southern Naval Command area and the Dolphin Nose road β€” this means the road passes through a restricted naval area and gates may occasionally be closed for military exercises (rare in practice). A valid ID is required at the gate.

By auto-rickshaw or cab: Rs. 250–400 from Vizag city, Rs. 150–200 from RK Beach. By two-wheeler: The most popular option β€” the winding ghat road is excellent for bikes. No public bus service runs to Yarada; private vehicles and hired autos are the only options.

πŸ’‘
Pro Tips
🌊Carry a government-issued ID (Aadhaar, passport) for the naval gate check β€” the process is simple and takes under 2 minutes.
🐚The road is paved throughout but narrow in places β€” drive carefully on the ghat section, especially on weekends when two-wheeler traffic is heavy.

Best Time to Visit Yarada Beach

October to March is ideal β€” the Bay of Bengal is calm, the air is dry and cool (22–28Β°C), and the hillside vegetation is lush green from the post-monsoon recovery. January and February are peak visiting months with minimal crowds despite being winter holiday season across India.

Avoid June to September β€” the Bay of Bengal can produce powerful monsoon swells, and the winding Dolphin Nose road can be slippery during heavy rains. November occasionally brings Cyclone warnings to the Vizag coast β€” check NDTV weather alerts before planning a beach day.

The Breakdown

Why Yarada Beach is a Must-Visit

Yarada is Visakhapatnam's most pristine and secluded beach β€” tucked between three hills on a narrow peninsula at the very tip of Vizag's coast. Accessible only through a single mountain road, it remains blissfully uncrowded with golden sand, clear green waters, and the majestic Dolphin's Nose lighthouse overhead.
