Galgibaga BeachGoa β€” Beach Guide 2026

Located in the extreme south of Goa in Canacona, roughly 18 km below Palolem, Galgibaga Beach is one of the state's best-kept secrets. It is famously one of only three beaches in Goa protected as a nesting site for the endangered Olive Ridley turtles. Because of this environmental protection, the beach is entirely commercial-free: no permanent shacks, no booming speakers, and no bright lights. It is 1.5 km of pure, golden sand flanked by dense casuarina pine forests.

Editor's Note

Galgibaga is what Goa looked like 40 years ago. It is fiercely protected and beautifully desolate.

The Turtle Conservation Zone

Between October and March, female Olive Ridley turtles arrive at night to lay their eggs. The northern portion of the beach is fenced off by the forest department to protect these nests. Visitors can sometimes witness the miraculous hatching process under the guidance of forest rangers, usually late at night or early morning.

πŸ’‘
Pro Tips
🌊Do not use flashlights or take flash photography at night; it disorients the turtles.

Absolute Serenity

The waters at Galgibaga are remarkably clean, though swimming can sometimes be tricky due to a steeper drop-off and occasional rip currents. The real draw is the absolute silence. You can walk the entire length of the beach and encounter perhaps five other people.
